THE STRAND
Set just back from the sand at Onetangi, this extensive renovation transformed a tired old Lockwood into a home that now belongs on the beachfront. Built for a family who wanted the beach at the end of the path and the Gulf in every room, the house is settled into the coastline with dark stained timber and a standing-seam roof. The upper level opens right out onto a wide deck sheltered by an adjustable louvre roof shade or sun, dialled in as the day moves. Living, dining and lounging all flow outdoors, with views stretching across the bay to the headland. Below, a second deck with room to stretch out, a quieter spot as the sun drops. This is beach living, done properly.
